About Studland Trekking Centre

We are a friendly stables situated in the picturesque village of Studland on the Dorset coast, 5 minutes from Swanage and 30 mins from Bournemouth via the Sandbanks chain ferry.

With 3 miles of sandy beaches and dunes, clifftop horse rides along National Heritage sites and 3000 acres of forest and heathland, we are lucky enough to offer some of the most stunning riding in the UK. We have rides suited to all abilities, from complete beginner to experienced riders and offer both Group Rides and Private/Semi-Private Rides so that you can make the most of your experience with us

Yard Manager

Having started coming to Studland as a client, Jodie has been a part of the team here for several years. Her previous experience as Regional Coordinator for the British Equestrian Federation has strengthened her knowledge in the equestrian world following a BSc in Sport & Exercise Science and a MSc in Sports Nutrition.

Jodie’s cheery and chatty side makes the yard a welcoming and friendly place and her caring nature means her riders are in safe and sensible hands.

Laura

Laura

Lead Rider & Horse Care Manager

With 27 years’ experience in the industry, Laura has a wealth of equestrian knowledge. Having trained at Wellington Riding and RAC Saddle Club Bovington, she successfully achieved her BHS PTT lll. She has experience working with young sports horses at a breaking and groundwork yard for a number of years.

Laura is fantastic at providing tuition for riders of all levels in order to get the best out of their ride, both for themselves and for the horse. She is kind, helpful and really instils confidence with clients.

Brady

Brady

Lead Rider & Yard Assistant

Brady has been working with horses since a teenager. Although his dream of becoming a jockey didn’t quite come true, he continued to follow his passion in the equine world at further education. He has a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horse Management and following work experience with us, became part of the team in the summer of 2017.

He is the chatterbox of the yard and provides clients with endless entertainment and a fun ride.

Bandit

Appaloosa X Cob – 15.2hh – Gelding

Bandit is a sweet natured horse and great for all levels of rider. He enjoys a gentle stroll round the Heath but will give you a fun time on one of our faster rides. Great for rusty riders, and a particular fan of a splash in the sea.

Basil, Cob, Studland Stables

Basil

Cob – 13.3hh – Gelding

Basil is a fun and forward going chap. Endless energy and always keen, but very responsive too. He is a little wide and has a springy trot so is great for the more experienced rider.

Whiskey, Quarter Horse X, Studland Stables

Chalky

Cob – 16.1hh – Gelding

Chalky is a responsive, keen and forward going horse who is a pleasure to ride. He has a lovely personality and really enjoys stretching his legs on the longer rides so is great for experienced riders

Chey, Dartmoor Pony, Studland Stables

Dartmoor Pony – 11hh – Mare

Chey is a fantastic lead rein pony for our younger riders. She is sweet and fluffy and loves attention!

Clyde, Clydesdale, Studland Stables

Clyde

Clydesdale – 17.1hh – Gelding

Clyde is the true meaning of gentle giant. There isn’t a bad bone in this horse’s big body and he is just as fun to ride on a gentle hack as he is when out with experienced riders.

Cracker, Arab, Studland Stables

Cracker

Arab – 15hh – Gelding

Cracker is a striking chestnut that turns heads as he goes along. He is fantastic with beginners and enjoys a walk around the heath. He is a brilliant lead horse on the more experienced rides.

Flash, Irish Sport Horse, Studland Stables

Flash

Irish Sport Horse – 16.3hh – Gelding

Flash is a happy, cheeky chappy who loves attention. As one of the staff horses, he is a great lead horse and really enjoys his job. He has even learnt some tricks in order to get his favourite treat, mints!

Honey, New Forest X, Studland Stables

Honey

New Forest X – 14hh – Mare

Honey is a lovely sweet natured girl. She enjoys gentle hacks around the heath and turns heads wherever she goes.

Lady, Appaloosa X, Studland Stables

Lady

Appaloosa X – 14.3hh – Mare

Lady is an easy, forward going and responsive mare. As one of our most requested horses, she has some lovely paces and is one we are sure you will fall in love with (even if she isn’t the biggest fan of the geldings!).

Lilly

Cob – 15.3hh – Mare

Lilly is a fantastic forward going mare who enjoys hacking out with her friends.  She is a truly honest horse that has the sweetest of natures and gives a brilliant ride for experienced riders

Percy

Cob X – 13.2hh – Gelding

Percy (a.k.a Sir Perciville) is a kind and willing horse. He is great for beginners with his gentle walk but really picks the pace up for experienced riders.

Rhubarb, Blagdon Cob, Studland Stables

Rhubarb

Blagdon Cob – 14.3hh – Gelding

Rhubarb has been a very popular horse here for some years. Always willing to please, he really enjoys his job. He is a forward going ride who is very responsive to a gentle rider.

Seamus, Clydesdale X Cob, Studland Stables

Clydesdale X Cob – 15.1 hh – Gelding

Seamus (a.k.a Ronnie Rocket) has the cheekiest face on the yard. He has really come out of his shell since he has been with us and thoroughly enjoys his job. He likes to be first out of his stable and will give his riders a great ride.

Smartie, Appaloosa, Studland Stables

Smartie

Appaloosa – 15.1hh – Gelding

Although he has lost most of his spots, Smartie is still a typical cheeky Appy. He is a good fun ride for experienced riders only and is a great lead horse. He enjoys playing with zips, toggles or anything he can have a play with!

Quarter Horse X – 14.3hh – Gelding

Whiskey is part of the furniture here as he has been part of the team for 20 years! Taking life a little quieter now, Whiskey enjoys his strolls around the heath but is happy to stretch his legs a little now and then when asked. He is the wise horse of the yard and knows more than all of us put together!
