STUDLAND RIDING STABLES - June Newsletter

Evening beach ride heads to the dunes..

Hello from Studland Stables

How time flies when you have 23 horses to look after! It doesn’t seem long ago we were telling you about our Christmas rides and how we survived the freezing conditions, now we are in the midst of a mini heat-wave and heading into the summer!

We are currently enjoying some beautiful evening beach rides – we get down on the beach just as the day trippers leave and it is amazing to have the evening light on the water and the sun slipping down over the heath. The beach rides continue until the end of June and then we will put some new evening rides in the diary.

The Forest can be a very different place in the evening, the wildlife is often more visible and it is quite common to see herds of deer grazing. Riding along the ridge in the evening on the Old Harry ride gives (we believe!) one of the best views of a sunset to be found in the UK! Please do come and join us for a truly memorable time.

The Welcoming team

Last, but by no means least, we have a new member of our 'welcoming team' at the yard – Boo has joined our boxer Harvey (and Stuart) and they all take their role quite seriously! Boo has come to live with us as his previous family, are emigrating to Australia - he will be sadly missed by them, but he is a real softie and much loved already.

Please read on for more news and pictures.

We hope you have a lovely summer and look forward to seeing you again,
Stuart, Helen and the team at Studland Stables.

New arrivals at the stables

Some of you will already have met Storm and Lady two of our gorgeous new additions – Storm is a handsome 16’1 T.B/Hanoverian cross who is learning the ropes with the staff and is almost ready to become part of the working team.

Lady and Helz in the snow

Lady is already winning hearts – she is a beautiful 15’2 dunn mare who is just 7 years old. She has settled in so well and is loving her new routines and rides.
Lady has seen a variety of weather fronts since she arrived 3 months ago as you can see from this lovely picture of her and Helz returning from a snowy heath ride in March.

Cale struts his stuff

We have also just welcomed a new working livery horse. Spanish Arab, Cale arrived from Andalucia and stepped off the truck after 5 days of traveling looking amazing – he turned the heads of the staff… and the mares!

L-R Gabbie, Merlot, Poppy, Crystal and Lady couldn't take their eyes off the new boy!

Mares welcome Cale

Day Rides

Our day rides will continue throughout the summer, normally going out on the first Sunday of each month. Minimum ability is confident in canter and the fitness to ride for 4/5 hours! Don't forget if you can get a minimum of 4 riders together (5 at weekends) we can put on a 'Day Ride' just for you!

Oakey and Clare ready for the hunt

Oakey joins the hunt!

The last hunt of the season saw Oakey surprise us all with his confidence – Clare got him (and herself) ready beautifully, although he shook his plaits out before the pre-hunt drinks had been served!

He behaved impeccably and took it all in his stride, we were very proud of him.
